Renowned for its luminosity, egg tempera is an ideal medium for rendering portraits, the human figure, still-lifes, and landscapes. In great demand today, this ancient method has the unique ability to create fine detail, countless textures, and glazes in a single session. All aspects of the medium will be covered from the mixing of paints with dry pigments, under painting, and glazing with warm and cool tones, to water gilding, stamping, and embellishment. This hands-on class will include in-depth instruction and demonstrations throughout.

American-born Suzanne Scherer and Russian-born Pavel Ouporov met while studying at the renowned Moscow Surikov State Academy Art Institute. Among her many academic accolades Scherer received an International Research & Exchanges Board Award to be the first American visual artist accepted into the Russian Academy of Arts during the Soviet period. At age 11, Ouporov won admittance into the Moscow State Academy Art Lyceum, and earned a MFA from the Moscow Surikov State Academy Art Institute. Scherer and Ouporov’s works are in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Library of Congress, the New York Public Library and The State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg.
